As the group form the last adventure is waking up from a long night of much needed rest, they encounter two more companions down in the breakfast area, at noon. They all eat a hardy meal, well, Clvoerdung has six pounds of bacon. As they are finsihing off their morning brew, a peon (Fred the accolite) runs in asking to speak to Othello. The runner has a parchment with a message sayinog that Othello should go to the temple and speak to a priest about a quest. Othello is too full from breakfast to move so he commands the peon to bring back all the information needed for the journey. After a while, the runner returns, with an armful of documents and a map.
The quest is to find a paladin named Calpernon. More specificaly, find the spear of aspects that he was carrying becasue the paladin is probably dead. He left to go defeat a dragon a couple of years ago at Fire Top (an old volcano) to the northwest of town. Since this journey will likely produce the confrontation with a dragon, Othello goes to buy a cart and some donkeys so he can bring his ballista. Just in case.
After Othello has his asses loaded, the group heads out……to farmer Picks for some fresh apple cider. Before heading towards the White Fawn, Clvoerdung asks farmer Pick if he would like him to take a barrel of cider to sell to the small inn. Pick loads up a barrel and says to not take less than 5gp for it. Cloverdung promises to get 10gp.
As the adventurers are heading up the northwest road, a couple of the members see two wagons stopped in the road. There are dwarves scurrying around shouting and shooting arrows into the air. Upon looking up, the group sees a couple of Wyverns swooping down on the dwarves. A couple of the dwarves have already been killed. While party memebrs are deciding what to do, Clvoerdung, using speak to animals, tells the asses to charge up to the wagons. Since Othello is riding in the cart, he too is headed towards battle, un-wantingly.
When Othello is close to the dwarves, he grabs the leads from the asses and swings the cart around. This brings the ballista into play so Othello unloads a bolt, at a Wyvern. Now that the rest of the party know who to fight, they all join in. Well, almost all. By the time Gubikla can run up to the scene, the Wyverns are dead. The leader of the dwarves, Blovin, thanks us for the help and provides 5gp to each party member. Hammar revives some fallen dwarves and Kavis helps load up the bodies of the ones that cannot be helped. The two groups part ways.
As the sun is getting ready to set, the party sees a small group of buildings that is a known stop along the road. This is the Oak Bar. Amber is in charge and allows the group to stay the night in one of the rooms. When the group asks Amber about a paladin coming through a couple of years ago, she remembers seeing him only once. He never came back through. While trying to decide if the group should burn down the place and loot it, all the members fall asleep. Waking up the next morning, everyone eats some bacon and eggs. Well, Cloverdung eats bacon anyway. The group loads up their gear and continue up the northwest road.
After a few hours of traveling, a small group of men are seen heading down the road, toward the group. Being nice travelers, the party steps off the road to the side so the set of men carrying a palankin can pass. There is a small group of armed men following. Gubikla, for WHATEVER reason decides to cast thunderwave as the group of men are beside him. BAM! Two of the carriers are killed, the palankin crashes to the ground. The group can hear a man’s voive from inside, so, seeing how there is no female inside, everyon attacks. Hammar sets the palankin on fire with his sacred flame. Othello drops one of the armed guards. Kavis rushes in the kill the other guards. Gubikla blasts the two men running away. When the man in the palankin stands up, before the group can decide to capture him for ransom, Cloverdung kills him with two arrows to the nuts. Not much booty from this lot, but since Gubikla started it, we had to finish it. Cloverdung decides to load the dead body of the man from the palankin into the cart so we can show the next stop, the White Fawn, that the roads are not safe. For good measure, Cloverdung also makes some fake owlbear prints arounf the scene in case anyone investigates.
As the adventurers near the White Fawn, Cloverdung runs up screaming for help. He tells of the horror the group had discovered on the road. All the dead bodies. We brought this one because he seemed like he might be important. The people running the White Fawn tell us that the body looks like that of Sir Belfrey. Apparently, he was kind of a douche. He was also the brother in law of a councilor from Heigville. We turn the body over to the White Fawn so they can inform next of kin and such. Cloversdung is able to sell the apple cider the White Fawn for 25gp, and setup a regular delivery to keep them in good supply. Cloverdung knows farmer Pick will be happy to get his 10gp cut and learn of the trade. Tired from all the good deeding, the group turns in and rests for the night.
As the group is getting ready to leave the White Fawn, they encounter Olaf Olafson. He is looking for protection as he is traveling up the northwest road to the next town. The party tells him they are not headed that way, but rather looking for Fire Top, Olaf tells them he is from the nearby fishing twon. Near the foot of Fire Top. Olaf tells us to look for someone one in Gill Town and they can take us to the old dwarven walkway that leads to Fire Top, avoiding the swamps. The group thanks Olaf and heads off for Gill Town.
After a few hours, the party sees Sturgen Lake ahead, with a small town loacted on the near shore. The group goes into town and asks about a guide. They run across Olaf Olafson’s son who tells them of a guy named Willaby that will take them across the lake, to the secret walkway of the dwarves. But, a small barge will have to be built in order to get the party and their cart with asses across the lake. Therefore, the group beds down for the night.
