Adventure 60 – Caverns Under the Quarry (Lich!!!)

Tetranac – Drow: Ranger (lvl 7)

Did Cloverdung find out that his parents fake their own death to get rid of him?
He did find out, and now he is seeking their fortune; well looking for it because he forgot to ask them where it was hidden before killing them.

Othello drops down into the smooth cut room onto a polished floor.  This is room is very well made and completely different then the Goblin tunnel he had just been in.  He heads across the room to get a better look at the large tables on the other side of the 80’ wide room.  He can tell that there is a grating in the floor around the tables.  

Bone drops down and head over to the tables as well, along with the rest of the party.  Gubikla is the only one that stay up in the hallway.   Othello avoids the light of Bone’s sword and sneak around the edge of the room toward the tables.  Tetranac tries to follow Othello’s example but fails to sneak very effectively.    The party makes it over to the two tables with a stone sarcophagus? without a lid in the middle.  Pete throws a coin that he had cast light on down the far side of the room and only gets it about 30 feet.  He thinks he saw a flash of light at the far end of the room.  He throws another lighted coin and this time makes it a good distance.  Lighting up some boxes at the far side of the room.

Talin tried to look into the sarcophagus but he is to short.  Mightychondria see bloody silver plates and some kind of instruments on the west table.  Bone see basicly the same thing on the east table but he also notices that there are sloped to drain the blood off the table into the grating on the floor.  He checks out the grating but does not see see anything in the space below.  He decides to get on top of the table so that he can easily collect anything of value.  Mightychondria follows suit.   Tetranac heads over to the sarcophagus and sees that it is filled about 2’ with what looks to be salt.  He reaches the salt to search for anything in the stuff.  He finds that whatever it is it reacts with his skin and takes a point of damage.  Othello shoots a bolt down the room between the south wall and the tables and disappears from the southeast corner and appears just past the west table and sinks back into the shadows.  

A shiny sphere floats into the room from the west passageway and stopped right before Pete. It looks to be some type of eye.  It looks at Pete and speaks in Abyssal,  “A rise and dispatch of these intruders”.  Othello is the only one that understands them but does not want to give his position away.   At that point three Gelatinous cubes came out of the ground and engulfed the two tables and sarcophagus.  Mightychondria was engulfed but Tetranac and Bone were quick enough to jump to the side.  A magic mouth appears in front of Talin and says in Dwarven “I hate dwarves” and he gets blasted with two full rounds of Magic Missiles from behind him.  Pete takes a swing at the eye with his mace and damages it.  Othello takes his lead and shoots the eye with one of his sonic bolts and the eye explodes.  Mightychondria cuts his way out.

The Gelatinous cubes advances toward the party.  Bone slices big chunks out of the Cube in front of him.  Tetranac pulls out his short swords and slices at the one after him.  Mightychondria takes a few swings at the one the engulfed him.  Talin moves and swings at the space that the magic missiles came from, but does not come in contact with anything.  

At this point the party sees a line of what kinda looks like bugbear mummies running down toward the party in a line that fills up the full width of the room.  Pete cast Prayer of Healing healing a couple of the party members but also damaging the mummies.  Bone finishes up liquefying the Gelatinous cube he was fighting.  The idea came to try to lead the cubes to the mummies to help fight the mummies.  Talin gets another voice telling him the the invisible attacker really did not like Dwarves and gets blasted with another round of Magic Missiles.   Tetranac decided that he does not want to get hit with magic missiles and cast protection from force damage.  Bone activates his missile protection helm.  Othello shoots at where he thinks the invisible attacker is but misses.

The Cubes advance and one catches Tetranac and pulls the dark elf into itself.  Mightychondria attacks one of the Mummies that have advanced to the  party.  Talin runs around Pete and attacks the one that was in front of Pete while yelling for Gubikla to attack on his position.  Pete cast another Prayer of Healing, healing Tetranac and Talin while damaging several Mummies in front of him.  Bone swings and comes in contact with the invisible attacker.  Othello reaches into a bag and throws a Hell Hound grenade at the second Mummy from him.  It explodes in a fiery sphere.  

The Cubes advance toward the party and Tetranac tries to cut his way out of the one he got caught in.  Bone swings around in the area he thinks the attacker is in but is not able to hit anything this time.  The Mummies do some pretty good damage against the party.   Gubikla finally wakes up and cast a Fireball that destroies several Mummies.  Tetranac gets taken down by one of the few Mummies left, but Pete is able to heal him back to life.  At this moment a Halfing fall from the ceiling causing an earthquake, shattering the stone as he lands.  He then pulls his cloak over his head and vanishes.  This puts Pete, the Cleric, on floor, where he rolle a “1” on his death save.  Othello teleports over to Pete ready to force a healing potion down Pete.  Bone uses his Action serge to make it over to Pete and use his own potion of healing.  Mightychondria, Gubikla, and Talin finish off the Mummies.  The party hears a loud stone grinding noise from the hallway to the west.  Gubikla cast a scroll of True Sight but does not see anything close to him.

Othello teleports down the hallway and Bone advances to the edge of the hallway, as the party thinks this is were the Hobbit (Nitty Sharpstick) went.  The rest of the party heads to that direction as well.  In the middle of the room is a revers zigorat.  With scrolls and bodies around a circle.  In the middle is a huge undead snake that has a humanoid grafted to the head of the snake.  Othello waste no time and shoots it with his wand of lightning.  This has no effect on what the party thinks is a Lich.  The Lich points to Othello and says “You will be the first to die” and the snake attacks Othello and he barely saves from being paralyzed.  Pete Heals the undead monstrosity and it turns toward him and says “You are next”.  Mightychondria and Bone climb on to the snakes back and attack.  

Tetranac, Talin, and Gubikla make their way up the hallway.  Nitty appears behind Othello and stabs him in the back with a short sword.  Gubikla see’s and invisible elf with two wands and unleash two rounds of Magic Missiles at Othello.  Thankfully he still had his Magic Missile protection belt.  The Lich turns and points at Bone and cast Disintegrate.  Luckily Bone saves from being disintegrated but takes massive amounts of damage.  Othello manages a lucky shot and stabbed Nitty with his Verdgris dagger and ends up paralyzing the Halfling.  The Lich cast lightning bolt down the hallway where most of the party had kindly lined up.  This bring down Tetranac and Talin faints death.  It also steals the kill of Nitty.  Pete cast his last Prayer of Healing.  Mightychondria is able to have the final blow against the Lich.  The invisible Elf had run out the hallway at incredible and unnatural speed.  But Gubikla blasted him with a Chromatic Orb and killed him just before he got out of range.
