After the night of “fire and terror” within the Hive, the group gathers at breakfast (noon), at the Inn. Suddenlt, a messanger comes in to request that Cloverdung go speak with the town baliff. The others stay and finish breakfast, except Othello, who wanders off to survey the fire damage, and see what he can find.

Cloverdung makes it to the baliff who asks Cloverdung if he and his friends can take some dupty badges and look into who caused the fire and bring them to justice. There is rumor that some cultist caused all this ruckus and there will be rewards for each brought in. The baliff is placing the city on a curfew at sun set. No one is to be out on the street after dark. Cloverdung assures the baliff that he and his crew can manage this request.

As Cloverdung is heading back to the Inn, he notices a man entering a swanky “hotel”. Something about the man is odd and draws Cloverdung’s attention. In an effort to try and learn more about this man, Cloverdung trades his newly found magic dagger for a room in the hotel.

Cloverdung returns to the party at the Inn and tells them of their new assignment. Othello is still out scavenging so the party heads out to find him. As Othello climbs down a hole, he is greeted by a large rat. Not just a big rat, but an enormous rat that starts biting and clawing him. It takes Othello a couple of rounds to kill the rat but he knows too well it was not an ordinary rat. Not just becasue it took a couple of rounds to kill, but also because he had to make some saving throws from the rat bites.

Othello presses on down the tunnel, only to find wreckage and blown out basements where previous homes used to sit. As the party picks up on Othello’s tracks, the climb down the same hole and find a dead body. this is not a rat body, but a human body.

Eventually, the party catches up to Othello and as they are searching the surface ruble, a large group of giant rats attack them. The rats are killed off, but not before others have to make saving throws as well.

Cloverdung tries to follow where the wererats came from but loses their trail. Othello starts looking for signs as well. When the group crosses a busy street, everyone looks both ways before crossing, except Hammar. Wham! Hammar is run over by a horse and cart. The driver semi-slows to make sure his wagon is okay and then continues on. Hammar dusts himself off and catches up with the others.

Othello has lead the party to a dead end, where there is a locked stable door. Picking the lock, and removing the chains, the group heads in to search the stables. There is a sleeping area, with a bedroll and saddle, found up in the loft. Gubikla decides to cast an alarm spell over the bedroll to alert us when someone returns to this location. The chain and lock is put back in place and the group wanders around some more, looking for cultist clues.

Cloverdung decides to head back to the swanky hotel and see if he can get anymore information about the suspicious man. Bone, Hammar, and Gubikla take up positions outside the hotel to observe. Othello climbs up to the back balcony and hides behind a potted plant. Cloverdung grabs the bellboy and together, they go door to door to warn all the customers about the curfew and to stay indoors. Cloverdung learns the room and name of the suspicious man, 3E, Mr Smith. Cloverdung goes outside to tell Gubikla to watch the window of room 3E. then, Cloverdung goes to the bar in the hotel to watch the stairs for Mr Smith.

While everyone is waiting for something to happen, something happens. In a building across the street, Hammar hears some glass breaking noises. He decides to head over there and investigate. As he rounds the building he sees someone throwing a bag out of the upstairs window onto the ground. The clank it makes as it hits the ground suggests their is silverware and other homely possessions in the bag. Hammar kicks in the door and hollers for the intruders to give up. Hammar notices one small guy jump out of the window and land with a dagger in his hand. Another is hanging from the window, trying to let himself down. Hammar attacks the one hanging from the window but misses. The burgeler with the dagger attacks Hammar, and someone throws a heavy chest from the window onto Hammar’s head. Hammar takes out the guy with the dagger, and then the one hanging from the window. Before Hammar can head inside, a pictur frame falls around his arms from the windows above. There is still another burgler to be dealt with. By the time Hammar frees himself from the picture frame, Bone has arrived and dispatched the last guy, who was trying to flee down the stairs.

Back at the swanky hotel, Gubikla, who is now invisible and flying around the window of room 3E suddenly realizes the window is open. Gubikla flys into the room and searches. He finds a bag on the desk that is holding several masks that look like different people. Actually, it is the faces of real people (human flesh) and not masks. Gubikla decides to wait in the room until the mystery man returns. Hammar joins Gubikla in the room as well. Othello begins to search the hotel, to make sure the mystery man is not anywhere inside. Cloverdung decides to turn into a tree, just outside the window of 3E.

So, the party waits……
