Did Horwinson’s Cloverdung too good of an offer?
No, the offer was not that good. Size C is never acceptable.
The party searches the Ogres and frees Hammar from being pinned to the ground. The spell casters start complaining about how they have gone through all their spells and need to rest. So while the two clerics rest and the Drow meditates, the others say they will keep watch. Talin starts searching the north eastern wall and works his way around to south eastern wall. Othello says he will work the opposite direction. They find a secret door on the south east wall one section over from the gated door that Othello found a key for. Othello opens the secret door and there is a hallway headed south. Talin starts down hallway tapping his axe in front of him in an arc to check for traps and drops in the floor. Once Othello and Talin are about 10 feet into the hallway the secret door closes. Othello heads back to make sure he can open the door on this side of the hallway. Talin is keeps going staying on the west side of the hallway and goes about 20-30 feet and triggers a bear trap with his axe. He moves around it and keeps going about another 20 feet and this time his axe must have missed the trap but his leg sure did not. Talin tries to free himself but can’t get the leverage he needs. Othello tries to help but does not appear to have the strength. Othello pulls out some acid and it starts eating its way through the trap. Othello tries to free Talin again and fails, so he starts heading back to get Bone who is keeping watch. Just as Othello start back Talin is able to break free of the bear trap. The pair head down the end of the hallway. Othello searches and finds the secret door but does not see the way to open it. He ask Talin as it is a Dwarven door. Talin goes stretches and leans back against the wall to contemplate the type of door when his elbow pushes a stone inward and the door quietly swings open. There they see a room that has a little less than a dozen large hounds. They slowly close the door and Othello goes back to get Bone. Feeling bad that he is taking the last man on watch he cast invisibility on the three resting party members and block open the secret door with the sledge hammer.. Bone and Othello head back to the secret door. Talin opens the door and Othello throws in a mechanical acid spray device. Othello uses up some very rare acid but he feels it is worth it. He kill one or two Hell Hounds. The hounds are now rounding around in confusion as they are burning but can’t make out way. One of the Hell Hounds spots the party in the hallway and charges. Bone and Talin slice it a few times and Othello shoots a bolt into it. It dies but now a few more have figured out the party is there. One of them breathes fire on the party. One jumps over Talin and lands between him and Othello. Talin attack the one in front of him and Bone finishes it off and attacks the one that jump behind him. Othello finishes it off with a bolt to the head. Another breathes fire on the party before they are able to finish off the rest. In the room they find two large silver bowls that Talin and Othello uses and hats. Bone finds a large silver trough. They open the only door. It is the southern wall and opens into a hallway heading east. There is a door right across from the open the party opened and a pair around 30 feet east. One on the north wall and one on the south.
Tetranac in a mediated state starts hearing crunching of bone that he perceives is happening the the room he is currently in. He brakes his mediation losing any spells he was trying to recover to find that he is invisible and there are a couple of Trolls that appear to be in a eating contest with each other. Each have one of the Ogre sons and is chowing down. He sees the open secret door and no other party members. He sneaks past the Trolls and heads down to the room and sees Bone halling the trough on his back with one hand and looking out the door with his flaming sword with the other. Othello and Talin are next to him. He calls out and lucky remembers that he is invisible and indicates who he is. He tell the others that there are Trolls in the other room. Othello ask him … and you just left the others in there? So the group head back to the Ogre room, except Talin who decides that he needs a 30 min rest to recover from the Hound battle..
Tetranac sneaks back around to the east side of the room almost lading on his face after tripping on the invisible Hammar still sleeping. Bone head into the room to confront the nearest Troll. Othello stay in the secret doorway and shoot the other Troll. Bone slices a big gash in the first Troll. Tetranac shoots the Troll. Othello takes another round at the Troll but does not seem to be doing much damage. Bone finishes off the Troll in front of him. Tetranac shoots his fiery oil arrows at the Troll closing in on Othello and somehow has the perfect aim to hit Othello in the side of the head. Not once but twice. At this point Othello almost decides to use his Vedgris Dagger against the Drow instead of the Troll. But better reasoning overcome and he hits the Troll and it is now paralyzed. Where the party can easily finish it off. But Othello heads back to the Hound room to have a peacefully rest.
The party cleans up and searches the Trolls for any loot they may have. The Clerics finally wake up and wonder what happened while they were asleep. They party goes through the secret door and Bone is relieved that his trough is where he left it. They pickup Talin and Othello in the Hellhound room and head out to the hallway. Othello picks up a large smokeless fire ring, that was at the end of the hall next to the doors. Tetranac sees a eye that is watching the party. Kind of like a magical surveillance system. Talin tries to hit it with his axe but he is to short even standing on the rocking chair that Pete has carried from the other room. Tetranac shoots it with one of his arrows and it shatters. While the party is trying to figure out what to do next Hammar looks into the room across from the Hellhound room and sees bodies that are in all kinds of shape. Some without heads, and some missing arms. He quickly cast sun burst into the room and find it to be a meat locker with all kinds of bodies hanging from chains throughout the room. Pete starts unhooking any bodies that are from the civil races and does a quick prayer over them. Bone and Talin search a few of the bodies. Hammar just stands there dumbfounded that he miss the opportunity to give the souls a beerous send off. Othello uses his treasure sense dagger and tell the party that the treasure is down the long hallway and to the north.
As the party get close to the next set of doors. They see the southern door has been converted into sliding grate that has two locks on it. Looking inside they see a sphinx that is held up by chains and his wings have be cut in half. Talin brakes the top lock off and Othello picks the lower lock and slid the door open. The party go in to check on the Sphinx. Pete cast healing on the creature and Othello cuts the thread that has been used to stitch closed its mouth. Bone is poking it trying to wake it up. As it wakes up it roars expecting his captors to be there. This alerts the guard/tortures that open the door across the hall. Out steps a Bugbear and is shocked that the party is there. Talin swings his axe at it. Bone rushes in and almost drops his sword but his new gauntlets seem to keep it in his hand and due to the shock stab the Bugbear with a furious blow. Tetranac shoot at it from the hallway. Othello and Pete try to free one of the chains that is holding the Sphinx but are having no luck. The party kills the first Bugbear two see two others behind him. Bone is able to split the one on the left in two. While the others concentrate on the one on the right. Othello feed up with not being able to free anyone pulls out his shoulder goon and shoot it through the crowd and hits the Bugbear. Pete finally is able to free one of the chains but is knocked in face with the chain when it was released. The party finishes up the Bugbear. Bone come back into the room and easily releases the other chains. Pete heals the Sphinx we now know is Leonidas. Tetranac give him a potion of healing and Othello gives him his regeneration potion. Leonidas starts to grow back some paw digits and his wings but it will be several hours before he has been regenerated. Leonidas tell the party thanks and ask if we are ready to go kill some things. We are like sure, and head down the hallway toward the treasure. The hallway goes for a really long way to the east. When the party gets close to where the hallway comes to a T with another hallway heading North and South. Hammar goes hey guys I noticed a secret door back about half way.
But by that time Othello notices from the northern end of the very large hallway a two groups of humanoids wrapped in bandages caring cylinders heading toward the party. Othello goes Oh crap, and pulls out his lightning bolt wand and shoots down the hallway. The Mummies drop the cylinder and start rushing the party with faster than normal movement. Othello shoot another lightning bolt but for some reason it does not go off. Othello retreats around the corner. Tetranac shoots his lighting arrow and it strikes one of the Mummies. Bone activates a magic item and creates a circle that make anything that crosses it more vulnerable to fire. Talin and Hammar swing at the nearest Mummy. Tetranac get hit, but notices that there are runes on the bandages that give them resistance to fire and hast. Pete does a prayer of healing and heals three party members while dealing damage to a few Mummies. This burns up one into a pile of ashes. Out of nowhere magic missile globes swing around the other party member and try to strike Othello. But his Magic Missile protection belt saves his butt. Another swarm of Magic Missile orbs hit Pete. Bone continues to slice through the Mommies that are close to him. Hammar cast spiritual weapon that start attacking and seems to be doing decent damage. Talin and Tetranac continue to strike at Mommies. Pete continues to heal the party and damage the Mommies in range but is getting hit by more Magic Missile attacks. Hammar knowing Pete was about to die if he got hit again cast Banishment on Pete. The party finishes up the last of the Mummies and Othello teleported to the last location he thought the mage was, just in time to see him slip through a secret door. Hammar brings back Pete and the party discover that the cylinders are full of silver palm coins. About 40,000 of them. There are too many for them to carry. Where is Gublika when you need him to teleport us and the loot back. We really need to get Leonidas out safely so we can say we finished another quest!
