Adventure 111 – Lava eating staff with ants.

Talin – Dwarf: Fighter (lvl 12) + Cleric (lvl 1)
Othello – Gnome:  Thief (lvl 14)
Tetranac – Drow: Ranger (lvl 10)
Bone – Human: Fighter (lvl 14)
Hammar – Dwarf: Cleric (lvl 11)
Gubikla – Gnome: Wizard (lvl 13)

Did Kavis & Cloverdung loose a bet with Boris?

The lava pool in the center of the room forms a bubble. Tetranac with the staff in his hands see the party members as different enemies out to get him.  The rest of the party see Tetranac as a dark wizard. This starts up a battle between Tetranac and the party. Talin figuring out what is happening disarms the staff out of Tetranac’s hands.  This breaks the illusionary spell. Unfortunately the staff gets knocked into the lava pool behind Tetranac and is sinking down long way into it. This causes the staff to scream out and the gem to start flashing.  This is also about the same time two lava ant like creatures climb out of the pool and attack Talin.

Gubikla cast cone of cold.  This turs one to stone but the other is still up.  Othello tries to jump and pull the staff out but this just causes the staff to sink further into the lava.  Hammar cast showers of beer as more creatures crawl out of the pool and a sphere of lava starts rising toward the ceiling.  Gubikla manages to use telekinesis the staff out but it comes with a glob of laval that un-naturally continues to crawl up and eat the staff.  The bubble of lava reaches the ceiling and rubs against it then starts heading back down. Tetranac shoots and destroys the bubble before it can do anything directly against the party.  

Othello makes it to the door.  But finds there is nothing he can do to open it as the dials are only on the other side.  Gubikla lost his concentration with debri hitting him from the exploding bubble, Tetranac took out.  This allowed the staff to fall away from the party and Hammar created a wall of stone around the staff before it blew up.  Saving the party from considerable damage if not death. With the rest of the party fighting the ants, this allowed Gubikla to cast another cold spell crusting over the lava pool and hole it was coming out of.   

Once the battle was done the party goes over to the door and finding it closed Bond and Talin try to use the handles and breaks one off in the process.  Hammar tries to walk through stone but finds a metal plate surrounding the door. So he has to go up over it. He is able to unlock the door using the numbers discovered the first time.  Once he unlocked it, he managed to open one of the handles while Bone and Talin got the other one from inside the room. This allowed the party out before the room collapsed form the damage of the staff exploding and the lava bubble hitting the ceiling.  

Now at the bottom of the stairs a booming voice in Abyssal calls out intruders.  Bone figures out that the prime numbered stairs are trapped. So he starts up with Talin following a couple steps behind and Othello the rouge marking the trapped stairs.  The rest of the party were holding at the bottom of the stairs when two demonic beast appeared on either side of them grabbing drow and mage. The drow freaking out cast globe of darkness.  After Othello noticing the disturbance at the bottom of the stairs, notifies Bone and Talin. Talin leaps down the stairs and uses his helm of brilliance to cast daylight and attacking one of the.  This cause such a shock that they drop the wizard. Othello shoots and finds the perfect point on the demon to do massive damage. The Demons decide that they don’t want to hang around.

The party now without a opportunity even for a short rest decides they have had enough and  Hammar uses word of recall to bring them back to Wyntbridge. So that the members can train and resupply.

COD = Hammar for saving us with a wall of stone.  A spell that was usefully and was prepared.
