Adventure 116 – Refugees from Highvail

The group finds themselves at the at the T&A as it seems the otters have driven them out of the other bars and inns.  A Knight rides in and ask to speak with the city deputy. Frix one of the deputy talks to him a minute and then ask Vailra if we could be of help him out as she had done some work for him in the past.  The party heads out west on horse or mules. After several hours the party sees a column of horseman trying to defend a straggling convoy of refugees and merchants making their way to Wentbridge.  Seeing arrows and frostbite wounds with people about ready to drop dead of exhaustion. The party heads on past them and sees a group of guards finding off a small dragon. The party dismounts and sends their mounts back, with the exception of Varis.  They approach the dragon and Vailra challenges the dragon to come down and fight.  Upon the dragon’s approach she gets clawed and bit but also gives several hits with her sword and flail.  Luceaturn advances to join in the battle but gets there to late and the dragon flies off. He does one swing as it passes by him though.  With a lighting strike from the druid it heads over to confront Varis. The wizard cast some type of magic but no one knows what spells Bolof is using except it is not obviously attack spells, as no fire or lightning have emerged from his hands.  After a little more combat the party drove off the dragon. But by this time a group of Mastodons with makeshift huts on them approach. The wizard cast a fog cloud and the druid uses that to cast thorn barrier in it as well. This causes one to just stop in the middle of it and one gets caught up and gets taken down shortly after it leaves the cloud.  The Kobols that were shoot from the huts seem to have lost control of the beast and most of them have fallen to their deaths. This of course is not helped when the wizard levitates one and then drops it. After some confusion in the ranks and some friendly hits the party kills or drives off the attacking hurd. They head back to town.

They are met by Gezell Gangaston the heir to the karel of Highvail.  After thanking the party and awarding them some coins. She explains that some that a great white worm came out of Deephold and attack the city.  Griffin Livery held the city while they escaped the city. They were attacked at the pass and basically have been attacked ever sense. They had lost most of their clierics before they left the city mysteriously and only had a few acolytes for the wounded as they fled.  They were attack by white wolves, kobols, gnolls, hyenas, and of course the dragon.
