Adventure 18
Party Members:
Hammar – 5th Level Cleric
Cloverdung – 5th Level Ranger
Othello – 5th Level Thief
Gubikla – 5th Level Magic User
Kavis – 4th Level Fighter
We pick up with our adventurers as they are about to begin the climb back down into a burial mound they had cleared a few months ago. The party begins to gear up when Kavis comes wandering in ready for action. He finally caught up with the group after getting a late start due to drinking, and more drinking. The group is standing around deciding how to proceed when an electrical storm begins. This is a strange storm because the lightning strikes are orange and purple. There are also glimpses of “something” traveling down the lightning strikes, into the ground. While Hammar is delaying his decision, the others have already begun to climb down the shaft leading to an opening with four passages leading off of it.
Once Hammar finally catches up and lands in the entry, the group spots a dozen orcs armed with bows and axes. Not wanting to take any chances, Gubikla fireballs the orcs, as well as Cloverdung since he was in melee with them. After the dust settles, the members begin looting the dead orc bodies while Cloverdung stamps out the fire on his clothes and equipment.
The party finds an open passage and travels down it to find another room full of orcs. Again, Gubikla panics and cast fireball, destroying most of the beasts. However, there is a bad-ass orc that clobbers Kavis to death. Gubikla finally kills the bad-ass and Cloverdung loots his body. The others search the other bodies as well. Hammar finally decides to cure Kavis and bring him back to life (because we need as many targets as we can muster).
The group runs across a trap that fires darts, causing a bit of damage to some characters. Suddenly, the party finds a couple of slobbering monsters approaching. As Cloverdung hits one with an arrow, it explodes acid. The acid files onto a few of the group, causing more damage. With Gubikla using magic missile to destroy a couple, Kavis kills the third with his ax.
The dungeon passages begin to split into several different paths. Most leading to dead ends that have warnings written into the walls. The warnings mention something about letting the demon out or keeping him locked away. Othello is not really sure because there was no treasure mentioned, the message has no importance to him. Of course, reading the warnings causes some ruins to explode damaging Othello and Hammar. As the group begins to split up following the various paths, a couple of beasty warrior duds, with halberds, show up ready for battle. A couple of normal arrows from Cloverdung bounce right off. As well as the normal ax used by Kavis. It is discovered that it takes magic weapons to hurt these creatures. They are finally killed by using magic weapons and spells.
More traps are discovered as the group wanders around finding more warnings to read. Finally, the passage opens into a very large room. There is a shaman in the middle, reading a scroll, while facing a large block that appears to have something trapped inside. There are several acolytes around the shaman. Guarding the entrance into the room are some exploding guys, couple of beasties, and one large monster thing, with a huge-ass club. With Cloverdung out of fireball spells (which would be great now), Cloverdung fires his fireball arrow at the shaman. Boom! It explodes killing all the acolytes and pissing off the shaman, who continues to read the scroll, not to be interrupted. The beasts and explody guys attack Kavis and Hammar. As the monsters are pounding on the party, hard, Gubikla is able to finish off the shaman before he can complete the scroll he was reading. Instead of simply dying, the shaman and the scroll evaporate. Othello kills the explody guys, Kavis and Hammar are having it out with the big bad monster, and his club. Cloverdung is smashed by the big bad monster, leaving only 2 hit points left before Cloverdung is killed. Fortunately, the big bad monster is killed before he can continue his carnage.
The party breathes a sigh of relief as the last beasts is killed and then begins the looting of bodies. Cures and resting can come later when there are dead bodies to be searched. With everything searched and double-checked the party establishes camp to rest up. Now, if they can make it out alive.
