Adventure 30
Party Members:
Cloverdung – 6th Level Ranger
Othello – 6th Level Thief
Gubikla – 6th Level Magic User
Hammar – 6th Level Cleric
Bone – 5th Level Fighter
As the party is putting out the last flames on their cloaks, Bone comes climbing through the 2nd floor window. Out of breath. After Bone finds the party, they soon find a hidden door in one of the bedroom closets. This new room appears to be a bathroom. With a working toilet. Hammar believes this is a bewitched room because it takes away crap magically. The group has a quick rest to regain some hits and then leaves the bathroom to explore more of the castle.
As the group splinters into various rooms, Othello and Hammar find some clingy shadows in their room. Cloverdung and Bone find nothing but furniture in theirs. Gubikla finds a room with another rug. This time it is a normal rug.
Suddenly, Cloverdung notices several gargoyles that have come in through the window left open by Bone. Cloverdung attacks, Bone watches, Hammar runs into the hallway, Othello remains unseen by Gubikla (major mistake), and Gubikla peaks into the hallway just enough to launch a fireball. Everyone is cocooned by Gubikla, except Othello, who takes fire damage from Othello. Again. Finally, the crew take out the gargoyles, put out fires, and move on to other rooms.
The next room is found to contain a chest, a bed, and some things. While some party members file in to claim their booty, a specter with a dagger comes out of the wall and attacks Hammar. After Hammar takes some damage from the creature, it is finally killed. Hammar and Othello stay in the room to find treasure.
Gubikla and Cloverdung come across a staircase going down, but the first floor is incased in darkness. Cloverdung tosses a lit torch down the stairs, but the darkness remains. After several more torches are thrown downstairs, Cloverdung is bored and heads back into the hallway. Gubikla thinks the place is on fire downstairs so he starts casting frost bolt into the darkness. Hoping to extinguish the flames. Bone decides to head downstairs, even though he cannot see anything once he crosses into the darkness.
Meanwhile, Othello and Hammar find a peep-hole in the bedroom where the spectar attacked. Othello looks in the hole. Mistake! Othello now has one eye that is totally black. Something came through the hole and is now floating around in his eye. They search for a secret door in hopes of getting to where the peep-hole leads. No luck. Finally, Othello and Hammar go back to the bathroom and flush the toilet several times. A hidden doorway swings around, revealing three treasure chests. Othello easily makes it in before the door swings closed. Hammar tries and is lodged between the door and the wall. With his legs about to be amputated from the door, Hammar finally wiggles into the chests room with Othello. So, they start rummaging through the chest and POOF! A cloud of something explodes, does some damage to each of them, and then they pass out, asleep.
Cloverdung finds a symbol on the wall of the staircase, noticing it keeps the darkness from passing, and knocks it down the stairs. The darkness is pushed back a little. Until Bone decides to kick the symbol further into the room. Wooomp. Apparently, the symbol is pushed past the origin of the darkness. This causes a larger portion of the second floor to be engulfed in darkness. Cloverdung makes his way back into the light and towards the bathroom where he had heard noises (“Mine!”) before Othello and Hammar had. Eventually, Bone and Gubikla catch up to Cloverdung.
The remaining awake party members go back to the bathroom and try to find Othello and probably Hammar. Hopefully, Kavis will come along and help them smell the other dwarf to speed up the rescue.
